Instructions: 1. Remove the cardboard center of the roll of Toilet Paper. For more expensive brands of toilet paper, you may have to remove several sheets in order for the roll to fit in the can. 2. Fold the roll in half and insert the roll into a 1 quart paint can. (I got mine at Home Depot for $2.57) 3. Add 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol until the toilet paper is completely saturated. 4. Light it. 5. Construct something to hold a pot a couple inches from the top of the paint can and allows airflow. I made mine out of a #10 can and four straightened aluminum tent pegs. 6. Additional lids with various sized holes drilled in them will allow you to have some temperature control. 7. You can put out the flame by covering it with the lid (without holes).
Notes: · The can will get hot. Place the stove on a fire resistant surface, · If you close the lid firmly, you can store the stove without fear of the alcohol evaporating. · In time alcohol stored in the stove will cause it to rust, so you may want to store the alcohol in the plastic bottle it came in. · A stove filled with alcohol will burn from 6–8 hours. · 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol is not expensive. You can buy two 32 oz. bottles at Costco (and probably Sam’s Club) for $3.71. · Test Results: I brought 2 cups of water to a rolling boil in about 3 minutes. (Small sauce pan, w/ lid.) · Burning alcohol as a fuel does not emit toxic fumes so it is safe to use indoors, however, it does consume available oxygen. So, only use in very large rooms or well ventilated areas. · A stove can be used to heat a room. · This stove is not ideal for heating large amounts of food to boiling temperatures. Smaller pots and smaller amounts of food is ideal. If necessary, you might use 2 stoves under one large pot to reach the needed boiling temperature. |
